From 28 April 2025, French Customs officially launches the ELO (Obligatory Logistics Envelope) tele-service to simplify and secure customs processes at the Smart Border between the UK and EU.
What is ELO?
ELO is a digital "envelope" that groups all required customs declarations — including the Entry Summary Declaration (ENS) — into a single barcode. This barcode must be presented by lorry drivers when crossing the border.
What Hauliers Must Do:
- Submit ENS declarations early before departure.
- Integrate ENS MRNs into the ELO through the ELO platform.
- Present the ELO barcode at ticketing and border control.
- Ensure all documentation is complete before arrival to avoid delays.
- Remember: ENS is not required for goods from Northern Ireland.
Why ELO Matters:
- Faster border processing
- Fewer manual checks
- Increased security and compliance
- Failure to comply could result in serious border delays or refusal of entry
